Task Selection

The 80-20 of Instructional Design

After analyzing the criticality, frequency, and difficulty ratings for each learning task, assessments  and practice items are created to ensure that the performance goal of a training program is met. Sufficient practice opportunities and appropriate assessments are designed around the ratings provided by SMEs for each learning task.

This rich transfer of performance analysis from the SME is used judiciously by our instructional designers to create assessments that match up to the desired performance goal. While every terminal learning objective has a matching assessment item, mission-critical objectives are assessed in more depth and at higher levels.

Also, the 42 Design Square elearning team has a process mandate to ensure that assessment strategy precedes the media or presentation design to ensure an appropriate focus on performance goals of the training program.

Task Selection ensures that:

  • Every terminal learning objective has a matching assessment item
  • Critical objectives are assessed in more depth and at higher levels
